Just the two of us...

We can make it if we try... ok, I'll stop singing now. But that's how it's been for the past few days - just Kari and Daddy hanging out. Mommy and Bryce went to Ouray, Colorado with Grandma for a 5 day vacation. That left Daddy to get Kari cleansed, fed, dressed, delivered and entertained for the first time by himself.

Thus far I must admit we've had zero issues. Kari has been a great girl and we've had tons of fun. The past two days have been particularly enjoyable, with a post-work trip to a local farm for a corn maze and today's heartbreaking Purdue football defeat to Northwestern.

Kari and I joined Kim Kallok and her son Charlie on a trip to Exploration Acres on the south side of Lafayette. After a quick bite to eat at McDonald's (shhh, don't tell Mommy) we arrived on a huge farm property that has been turned into a giant playground for kids and adults. Many different corn mazes, little tractor (tri-cycles) races, hay rides, bonfires, a air compressed potato gun that launched corn cobs at a pumpkin target, a gift shop, etc., all are offered for parents and kids to enjoy.

While corn mazes can be frustrating, one way to dangle a carrott for participants is having local sponsors giving away prizes if you find their hole punch on a post somewhere throughout the maze. After a quick consult, the two parents opted for the pumpkin maze. Here there were opportunities to win from one of Kari's favorites (Dairy Queen), one of Daddy's favorites (Buck Creek Pizza) and one named after Kim's son (Grindstone Charlie's).

We finally found all three prizes and left feeling as though we accomplished something. However, this won't truly set in until we buy one blizzard and get one free! After a hay ride and walk through the woods, the kids and Kim climbed their way through a hay tunnel before leaving. It was a lot of fun.

Today, however, wasn't. Homecoming was cold, windy and rainy. The Boilers streaked out to a 21-3 lead over Northwestern only to see fumbles/turnovers on three consecutive plays with less than 2 minutes to play in the first half. We never scored again and lost 27-21. Yuck. Kari was a trooper, though, and made it through all of the first half and half of the 3rd quarter before we retreated to the golf course.

Special thanks to Lori and Maggie for giving us tickets to the game. Even more thanks for getting Kari up into the coaches' wives suite in the massive press box. Here we got to enjoy some good eats, cookies and water, as well as get out of the cold weather for a bit.

Kari finally has crashed and crashed hard on me here around 5 p.m. at home. We're both looking forward to seeing the other 50 percent of our family soon, but have also had a wonderful time bonding while they're away.
